So what are the worst parenting sins that ‘normal parents commit?
a collection I’m aware of….
when my son was a baby around 3 weeks old, he woke me up in the night crying- he was in a moses basket by the bed and I lifted him up to comfort him…I gradually realised I was actually holding him upside down
A friend had a baby who wouldn’t sleep- they became aware that the baby slept when there was white noise. Rather than run the washing machine constantly they put a vibrator in the cot….when the midwife came they became increasingly aware that they had a vibrator in the cot…..We think the midwife didn’t notice
Not doing what I said when I said…there are a whole load of these; but the one that haunted me was when I told my son I’d be home at 6 and stayed out all night drinking….he cried himself to sleep. This is an awful thing to have done but it was only once in 5 years….And he was at home with his dad!
taking my 3 year old sea canoeing….we went to Wales for a holiday- he saw the canoes and desperately wanted a go. We took him. One min he was sitting on the canoe; on a nice warm sunny day; the surf got up, a large wave came. The next min plunged into the atlantic…cold and scary. My brother was standing my and pulled him out so no harm was done but….he was scared of water for about 2 years!
